Musing Mondays (Dec 21)

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme created by Jenn @ A Daily Rhythm This week's question: What are your plans for this blog next year? Dinara Tengri is a very young blog.So far I have been writing reviews and following memes created by other bloggers. But I am always brainstorming for new features, and looking for ways to make this blog more entertaining. That means, that come 2016, there will be some changes to this place. First of all, I'm thinking about ending Musing Mondays. It's a great book meme, and it allows me to be creative, but I think it's time to try and create a meme of my own. Nothing is written in stone, however, I may not dump this meme just yet. Top Ten Tuesday is staying. I love this meme. Then there's also Wednesdays and Thursdays etc. And monthly memes as well. I definitely want to have a monthly feature, something that requires more preparation, like a bio of my favourite author. And since I love movies and TV, there should also be a...

Musing Mondays (Dec 14)

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme that asks you to answer a bookish question about yourself. It was created by Jenn @ A Daily Rhythm .    This week's question: What book do you want to read on Christmas?   With Christmas easily being the most hectic time of the year, filled with shopping lists and unrealistic expectations, I want to read something that will bring me some peace of mind. Something fun and entertaining.   If I'm going to read something during the holidays, it most definitely will be a novel. Sci fi or fantasy. About a world that I can safely immerse myself in, knowing that there will be no unpleasant surprises or heartbreaking deaths. Most likely it's a book I've read before. Not necessarily a masterpiece, but a book that makes me feel good.   With these criteria the only book I can think of is  The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy , or any of ts sequels. So maybe I will ta...

Musing Mondays (Dec 7): Reading Challenges: Yes or No?

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme created by Jenn @ A Daily Rhythm     This week's question: Are you going to participate in the Goodreads Reading Challenge next year?   What better way to add unnecessary stress and anxiety to your everyday life than to take part in a reading challenge? And yet, the promise of personal satisfaction and new-found friendship with other participants is tempting.     I have been participating in the Goodreads Reading Challenge for two years now. In 2014, I set a goal to fifty books. I think it was in November that it became evident, that I wouldn't win. So, what does a person do when faced with such a "devastating" defeat? Well, I don't know what others would do, but I simply went in and changed my goal to forty books, instead of fifty. And I "won".   When 2015 happened, I was feeling uncharacteristically optimistic, and set my goal to one hundred books. I don't...

Musing Mondays (Nov 30): NaNoWinner and Other Stuff

Want to participate in Musing Mondays? Check out  A Daily Rhythm Well, NaNoWriMo is drawing to a close, and it looks like I won! Before I do my crazy celebratory dance, I want to thank you for being patient with me this past month. I have been a little absent from my blog, as the first draft of my novel ate up most of my free time. So thank you :)       Now that I'm done with my own, I'm happy to dive in other people's books again. I am currently working on my review for Jane Eyre ,     plus, there's a whole bunch of books I want to R&R before 2016. Some of them have been on my TBR for a long time, others I just randomly picked out at the library.   Cleo, by Helen Brown   The full title of this book is Cleo: How an Uppity Cat Helped Heal a Family . I've been wanting to read this book for a very long time.     The Man in the H...

Musing Mondays (Nov 16)

First of all, I want to express my support to all the victims of terrorist attacks in the world. Stay strong. Musing Mondays in a weekly feature created by Jenn @ A Daily Rhythm This week I'm gonna answer my own question: What is the first book you've read by yourself? That would be A Bag Full of Apples , by Vladimir Suteev. It's about a hare who has gathered a whole bag of apples and is trying to get home to his family. He meets other forest dwellers on his way home, and they're all hungry. Being a generous young hare, our hero shares his apples with everyone, until the bag is empty. He comes home, empty-handed and ashamed. What he doesn't know is that all the animals that he has given his apples to, have come to his house with all sorts of treats and the family now has food for weeks. A Bag Full of Apples is a funny and heartwarming story that teaches children the art of sharing and giving back. What I remember the most are the colourful and h...

Musing Mondays

Starting off this week with another Musing Monday, a meme created by Jenn from A Daily Rhythm . This week I'm gonna answer my own question:   What have you been reading lately? So here's the thing. I haven't been at the library for a very long time. When I come home from the library, I usually have at least two books with me. This feeds my reading addiction for a week or two, and then I go back to get more books. This past week has been hell, not just because I've been sick and glued to my couch most of the time, but also because I found myself with absolutely nothing to read . Tried picking up a volume of Clifford D. Simak, only to realise that I read it a few months ago. I was getting restless. Even though I've been busy writing my next great novel, I felt my brain aching for some bookish stimulation. That's when I went online. Sites like Inkitt and Flash Fiction Online are a gold mine for lovers of the written word. So for the...

Musing Mondays

Musing Mondays is an original meme created by A Daily Rhythm . This week's random question: Have you ever chosen a book mostly because of its cover art and then regretted it because the content didn't live up to your expectations? Three words: Pride, prejudice, zombies. I mostly read this book because of the upcoming movie adaptation, but it was the cover art that made this book stand out from all the other titles on my "maybe" list. The image of a high society zombie girl, created by Doogie Horner was basically a spoof of William Beechey's painting of Marcia Fox (thank you, Wikipedia). It's a funny and provocative artwork that promises an equally funny and provocative story. Alas, the story is boring and the humour is dull and juvenile. Image source: Wikipedia

Musing Mondays: Bookish News I'm Excited About

So, another Monday is upon us, and I have two exciting news I want to share with you today. First of all, I've written a guest post for Book Bloggers International , which will be featured on Wednesday. It's a great blog, where book bloggers from all around the world get to share their thoughts on books, TV shows and all things cultural. This will be my first guest post ever. News number two: I've challenged myself to participate in NaNoWriMo this year, and I've accepted the challenge. This will be my second NaNo. Last November, my creative spark fizzled out when I reached 30k words. I also wrote for Camp NaNoWriMo in July, and I FINISHED the first draft for my other book. But this November I'm going to try something completely different. 50k words in one month is a pretty big commitment, which means that I won't have the time to be very active around here. So, I apologize in advance :) For those of you who don't know, National Novel Writing...
