Summer Reading

Schoolz out for the summer! For the next two months, I won't have to learn anything new about odontology, medicine, or the physical properties of dental cements. Also, I can finally read for fun again . I mentioned in one of my previous posts that I have fallen out of love with reading, and at that time it really did feel that way. Now, I feel like I'm getting my bookworm mojo back, and I'm already working on my next book review. I have also assembled a short and preliminary list of books I want to read this summer. Some of them are new to me, but there are a few re-reads as well.  I bought my copy of The House of Binding Thorns on a whim because I loved the cover. Also, I almost never read anything by French authors, and I'd like to change that. Endymion is, of course, the third book in the Hyperion Cantos series. The first two books completely blew me away. Honestly, not a day goes by that I don't think about those stories.  The two re-r...

My Spring TBR (with a twist)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl . This week's topic is books on our spring TBR. And this is where we get to our twist: I don't have any books on my spring TBR.  I no longer want my ambitions to put any added pressure on my already busy schedule. I'm currently re-reading The Grand Design by Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow and I'm reading it at my own my pace. And honestly, I don't know what book I'm going to pick up next. I do know that I want to start reading books that I already own, as opposed to doing review requests or going to the library (although, you should totally support your local libraries!). But just for the fun of it (and because I do like making lists) here are ten books on my bookshelf that I'm most excited about this season: 1. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath I got a sneak peak at the first few chapters. It promises to be an interesting read. 2. Leviathan Wakes by James A. Corey ...

Ten Books I'm no Longer Interested in Reading

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by  That Artsy Reader Girl . This week's topic is books that we're no longer interested in. While preparing this list, I combed through my TBR list on Goodreads, and did some early spring cleaning. There were a lot of books and book series that I had to remove, not because I have anything against them, but because I know I'll never make the time to read them all.  1. Shadowhunters series by Cassandra Clare 2. Divergent series by Veronica Roth 3. The Clockwork Century  series by Cherie Priest I did read one of the books in this series, Clementine   (coincidentally, my first review on this blog), but to read the whole series is a commitment I don't want to make.  4. Star Wars - the new canon books There is a lot I want to say about how Disney is treating this cash cow franchise, but not here. Let's just say that I won't be running to buy any novelisations of the sequels any time soon. 5. City of Cro...

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday , a weekly meme hosted by  That Artsy Reader Girl . First, I want to say that my review for the latest  X-Files  episode will be delayed. I will probably be posting it by the end of the week. Top Ten Books on My Winter TBR

Welcome back to another round of Top Ten Tuesday!  I have been taking a little break from  blogging , so here's a quick update on what I've been up to these past weeks. Two weeks ago, I went to Stockholm for the national  odontological  convention. This was my second time visiting the capitol city, and this time I got to see more of the city. I also brought a bunch of  goodie  bags with various dental hygiene products and other trinkets. You can check out my Instagram for all the pictures from that visit.   Nanowrimo  is in its final week now, and I have been trying to reach that goal of fifty thousand words. I'm up to twenty-one thousand now, so we'll see if I can catch up in just under three days. And in the middle of all the travelling, writing, and studying, I also have been recovering from a flu that completely pulled the rug from under my feet.  Now, I'm back and it's time to look ahead. So, without further ado...

Rainy TBR: Autumn Reading

Autumn is officially here. Wet, and grey, and wonderful. Autumn is the season of bad colds. It's the season of diving headfirst into a new school semester. And, most importantly, it's the season of books. For me, autumn is the best reading season . It has the perfect weather conditions for staying inside, with a good book, and hot cup of coffee/tee/coco. The thing about this season, is that there is no right or wrong when it comes to choosing your book. You can fully immerse yourself into the dark, and read a good old Stephen King horror. Or you can dream yourself away to a warmer and sunnier place like, say, Ray Bradbury's Green Town, or Mars. In my anticipation for this reading season, I've been outlining my autumn TBR, and this is what I have come up with. Some of these books have followed me from the summer TBR. There are some re-reads, too. Nothing  is, of course, written in stone. The TBR is more of a guideline, than a fixed to-do list. Currently read...

The Best of 2017 So Far + Ten Books on My Summer TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the girls of The Broke and the Bookish . This week's topic is ten best books I read in 2017 so far. But, since I only read fourteen books this year so far, and three of them were medical books, my list is going to be a little shorter. And while we're at it, I'm also going to share with you my summer TBR. Best of 2017 so far (in no particular order) 1. D irk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency , by Douglas Adams 2. Hyperion , by Dan Simmons 3. The Fall of Hyperion , by Dan Simmons (review is in the works) 4. The End of Eternity , by Isaac Asimov 5. Bite Me!: An Unofficial Guide to the World of Buffy the Vampire Slaye r, by Nikki Strafford (review will be in the works) 6. The Princess Diarist, by Carrie Fisher Summer of 2017 TBR I highly doubt that I'll read all these books in the two remaining months of summer, but this list is more a of guide than a goal. 1. Three Parts Dead, by Max Gladstone ...

November-February Book Haul

In the big exam/Christmas/back-to-school frenzy I completely forgot to do my obligatory book haul. Well, better late than never. The list is pretty long, but four of these books I bought at a sale as well as the two DVD's. And there's also that one book that I got for free. All in all, it was quite a bargain. Starting off at number one is the freebie, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.  by Rebecca Skloot. I had to read this book in school, and I loved it. You can read my full review of it right here. Next we have Stephen King's memoir/writing advice book, On Writing. I actually read it a couple of years ago, and I'm looking forward to re-reading it someday. Then we have a classic, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde , by Robert Louis Stevenson, that I bought for my brother. I read it once before, but it was such a long time ago, so I'm looking forward to that re-read as well. The are three books that I got at an outlet for only one hundred kronor. These are St...

Ten books I'd buy in an instant if I had a fully loaded gift card

Another Tuesday is upon us. Which means, it's time to arrange some random books in a list according to a pre-selected theme. I'm talking about Top Ten Tuesday - a weekly book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish . A little announcement before we get started: the amazing girls of Book Bloggers International have published my essay - The Shining vs. The Shining , where I analyse the differences between one of my favourite books and its famous movie adaptation .   This week's list falls under the "wishful thinking" category, and it's a list of ten books I would buy this instant if I had a fully loaded gift card . As far as imaginary me is concerned, the amount of money is unlimited.   This was a particularly difficult list for me to come up with, because if I had an unlimited amount of money, I wouldn't settle on just ten books. So I thought that if I had to narrow it down to ten books, they'd have to be pretty...
